Kumera Norgear was recently certified as an ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Standard compliant organization. ISO 9001:2008 is a family of standards related to quality management systems and designed to help organizations ensure that they meet the needs of customers, owners and employees. This certification ensures that Kumera’s policies, practices and procedures maintain consistent quality with regard to the services and work provided to customers.
–Over the last 12 months, Kumera Norgear has had the opportunity to invest in their business, by building an internal quality system, which will help to improve service to clients. As well as investment in infrastructure, capital and additional services, Kumera Norgear has worked extremely hard on gaining accreditations through ISO. We believe that this process will further improve the service to clients, says Mr. Jukka Kyttälä, CEO Kumera Corporation.
Investing in quality
Kumera’s next step is to achieve the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications. ISO 14001 is the internationally recognized standard for the environmental management of businesses. It prescribes control for activities that have an effect on the environment. These include the use of natural resources, handling, and treatment of waste and energy consumption. OHSAS 18001 (officially 'BS OHSAS 18001:2007') is an internationally applied British Standard for occupational health and safety management systems, that helps organizations to implement demonstrably sound occupational health and safety performance.
This summer, Oliwia Bury from Poland started her work as a Project Coordinator and QHSE Manager at Kumera Norgear. Her experience within Standardization Management, Standardization Maintenance, FMEA analysis of manufacturing processes and Management of production and quality, shall secure a smooth implementation and the correct maintenance of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
– I have achieved Certified Internal Auditor of integrated Management Systems according to ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, PN-EN 18001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007. During my studies, I participated in projects organized by the Scientific Club of Quality and Productivity. Currently, I am working on my master thesis, which I would like to base on my work related to the implementation of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, here at Kumera Norgear.
Kumera’s goal is to have the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification in place by the end of 2014.
– Accreditation according to the ISO/OHSAS standards highlights the professional services we provide to our clients, reflected in our internal processes and procedures, and the culture within our business. The accreditations represent a process of continual improvement for Kumera. This will further strengthen our market position, powered by the fact that this will drive us to produce improved and even more competitive products for the global maritime and oil & gas industry, says Mr. Per Arne Haug, MD Kumera Norgear.
As a part of Kumera’s focus on the environment, health and safety, we recently compiled a guide for the well-being and security of visitors. Other important initiatives in our daily work include a visitor registration system and compulsory protection gear.
–We want to do our bit for global responsibility, and aim to meet the requirements from customers and stakeholders. Our employees support a sustainable focus in their daily work, securing a green impact on the external environment; reducing pollution through e.g. recyclable wastes. With Kumera Visitors Guide, protection gear and other safety features, our goal is to prevent accidents, injury or loss of life of employees, customers and suppliers, creating a sound and secure working environment, says Oliwia Bury.
