Over the last 15 years, Kumera has delivered around 20 gearboxes to Transnet National Ports Authority in South Africa. Their recent historical order of nine new Voith Water Tractors (VWT) has resulted in a new large order for Kumera Norgear through our customer CounterFire/Stang. The tugs will be used at several ports across South Africa, and will be built by South African Shipyards in Durban.
Eight of the tugs will be identical in construction with a length of 31 meters, a beam of 12.5 meters and a bollard pull of 70 tons. The VWTs will be utilized for harbour towage in the ports of Saldanha Bay, Port Elisabeth, Durban and Richard’s Bay. The ninth VWT will achieve a bollard pull of more than 100 tons – one of the strongest tugs ever equipped.
